The Coordinated Specialty Care Family Partner role is to provide support to the parent/Legal Authorized Representative (LAR) of the youth. Access to quality family partner support can be instrumental in engaging families as active participants in the youth's care and equal members of the youth's recovery team. A family partner's personal lived experience is critical to establishing a trusting relationship and earning the respect of families who are experiencing a first episode psychosis with the youth. Families play a pivotal role in the recovery process of young people who have experienced a first episode psychosis. Family Partners can be a mediator, facilitator, or a bridge between families and agencies. They ensure each family is heard and their individual needs are addressed and met. Through their work with parents/LARs, family partners directly impact the youth's resilience and recovery.

  • The Family Partner is responsible for serving as a formal member of the CSC team.
  • Advocacy that encourages the positive choices of the parent/LAR, promotes self-advocacy for the parents/LARs and their youth, and supports the positive vision that the parent/LAR has for their youth's mental health and recovery.
  • Mentoring through the transfer of knowledge, insight, experience, and encouragement including the family partner's articulation of their own successful experience of navigating a youth service system.
  • Role-modeling the concepts of hope and positive parenting, advocacy and self-care skills that will ultimately benefit the resilience and recovery of the youth.
  • Experience in guiding/navigating the youth serving systems, including mental health, special education, juvenile justice, child protective services, etc.
  • Connection to community resources and informal supports.
  • Identification of the family's natural supports, strengths, and practical guidance in nurturing those relationships.
  • Stewardship of family voice and choice.
  • Listen to the families' concerns and involve them as equal partners in the planning and delivery of treatment.
  • Help improve communication among family members.
  • Be flexible in meeting the needs of the family.
  • Support through the facilitation of parent support groups.
  • No confirmed findings of person abuse/neglect.
  • Maintains refresher training timeframes.
  • Works cooperatively with the Supervisor and Team
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Flexibility in schedule to meet families where they are.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • A desire to use her/his personal lived experiences to help families is also necessary.
  • Responsible for working with a team and achieving performance targets/standards. 
  • A desire Works closely with internal and external stakeholders, to provide the highest quality service and service linkage available.
  • Attends meetings with community professionals/leadership, conducts/attends meetings with a professional demeanor and attire.

You'll definitely need:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Family Partner (must become a state certified Family Partner within one year from the date of hire).
  • A valid Texas State Driver's License.
  • Current automobile insurance and the ability to travel when necessary.

We'll also want you to:

  • Family Partners are the parent or legal authorized representative of a youth with a mental, emotional, or behavioral issue and must have at least one year's experience navigating a child-serving system. Individuals shall meet the following minimum qualifications for family partner:
  • Must be the parent or legally authorized representative with a minimum of one year of lived experience being responsible for making the final decisions for a youth (17 years or under) who has been diagnosed with a mental, emotional or behavior disorder.
  • Must be at least 18 years or older.
  • Have successfully navigated a child serving system for at least one year (i.e., mental health, juvenile justice, social security, or special education) and be able to articulate their lived experiences as it relates to advocacy for their child/youth and success in navigating these systems.
  • Have lived experience that speaks to accomplishments concerning their child/youth's mental health including their child/youth being in a stable place in their recovery and/or resiliency.
  • Can meet the requirements for a Medicaid background check.
  • Requires flexibility in schedule (evenings or weekends) and travel.
  • Must become certified in PMAB, First Aid, and CPR within three months of employment and maintain certification without interruption thereafter

$18.12 per hour and benefits
