Under the supervision of the JBCR Supervisor, the JBCR Assistant Supervisor will be responsible for providing competency restoration services, which include legal education for defendants found incompetent to stand trial and psychosocial rehabilitation services. This position will directly supervise the JBCR team and assist staff with the day-to-day operations of the program and the provision of curriculum. The JBCR Assistant Supervisor will provide training as identified by 46B statutory requirements, with the curriculum approved by the state for competency restoration. The JBCR Assistant Supervisor must utilize effective strategies to implement a learning environment to facilitate change. This position will provide supervision over both the Hays and Comal County JBCR staff and will require travel to both the Hays County Jail and the Comal County Jail.

You will get to:

  • Facilitates identified instructor-led courses as needed for competency restoration in an individual or group setting.
  • Works collaboratively with jail administration and management to enhance the overall quality of care and services provided across the agency in a trauma-informed manner.
  • Supervises two QMHPs, a Peer Support Specialist, and an Administrative Specialist
  • Ensures daily programming is conducted during the week, in a culturally competent and forensically appropriate manner.
  • Supervises this programming for restoration efficacy and adjusts programming as needed. Ensures there is coverage for this programming.
  • Ensure clinical notes and completed in a timely manner and contain all information that is clinically appropriate and relevant to progress toward competency.
  • Responsible for working with the provider to obtain a competency evaluation every 60 days or if the individual served appears to be approaching competence.
  • Responsible for communicating with the provider and competency evaluator if the person appears not likely to be restored within the initial and extended competency guidelines. If all agree, communicate this information to the courts.
  • Supervises the court to determine a more appropriate disposition of charges and alternate plans with the individual and support system when needed.
  • Provides legal education training and psychosocial skills training that address their competency to stand trial and their symptoms related to mental illness and/or substance abuse issues
  • Provides communication to the treatment team related to the defendant's learning.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the cultural diversity of individuals, serving family members, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Assists in the monitoring of relevant standards, industry best practices, and evidence-supported practices, ensuring that they meet and exceed healthcare training practices and statutory requirements.
  • Comply with agency policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies, and performance contract documentation requirements.
  • Monitors training specific to Hill Country and for competency restoration as described in the Texas Administrative Code.
  • Monitors the attendance of patients and communicates discrepancies to the treatment team.
  • Enters completions of instructional courses for staff in an accurate and timely manner into the patient's record.
  • Demonstrates an ability to adapt and modify training materials to accommodate patient and agency needs.
  • Complete and maintain both CPR certification and the Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You'll definitely need:

  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or marriage & family counseling
  • Current licenses, such as LPC, LMFT, or LCSW, in Texas
  • A valid Texas State Driver's License and a safe, inspected, and roadworthy vehicle
  • Current automobile insurance and the ability to travel to individuals when necessary.
  • Must meet the criteria that indicate a commitment to safe and responsible driving, as defined by the Texas Risk Management Council.?
