The Medical Records Specialists, under the direction of the Coordinator of Office Management Systems, are responsible for preparing, assembling, and disclosing medical records for clients throughout the 19-county catchment area of Hill Country MHDD Centers.

You will get to:

  • Process medical record requests through an electronic health record system.
  • Prepare a chart audit for Doctor's Day
  • Physical coverage of the reception area
  • Scheduling and confirming consumer appointments
  • Lab bill reconciliation
  • Insurance verification
  • Understand HIPAA and privacy laws in terms of the disclosure of records
  • Prepare medical record releases
  • Document medical releases according to policy and procedures

You'll definitely need:

  • High school diploma or GED, with 3 letters of recommendation.
  • Two years of experience in duties related to the position or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Two years of medical office experience specific to front office medical records
  • Must become certified in PMAB, First Aid, and CPR within three months of employment and maintain certification without interruption thereafter.
  • Two years of experience utilizing computer database systems or web portals
  • Two years of experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel.
  • To have a valid Texas State Driver's License.
  • To have current automobile insurance and the ability to travel to individuals when necessary.

  • Employ excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage and report effectively.
  • Maintain a well-organized schedule and travel as necessary to ensure completion of duties.
  • Maintain accurate and timely collaborative documentation with adherence to HIPAA regulations.
  • Sustain a calm demeanor when under pressure to handle sometimes difficult situations.
  • Provide exemplary customer service and care to individuals with their best interests at heart.
  • Work autonomously to complete assignments within community and HHSC standards with a high level of quality. 
  • Work cooperatively with others and be punctual and consistent in attendance because your people will rely on you!
