The Reimbursement Specialist at Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Center (HCMHDDC) responsibilities will include processing and submitting insurance claims to ensure timely reimbursement for medical services rendered. You will also be responsible for researching and resolving billing discrepancies, communicating with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers to obtain necessary information for submission of a clean claim, and utilizing information for services documented in the electronic health record (EHR). Additionally, you will need to stay up-to-date with constantly changing healthcare regulations and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Your ultimate goal will be to ensure accurate billing and timely reimbursement of medical services to help healthcare providers operate efficiently and provide quality care to individuals in services.

You will get to:

· Reviewing patient medical records to ensure accuracy and completeness for billing.

· Gathering and organizing patient information such as insurance verification, coverage details, and

demographic data for billing.

· Preparing and submitting claims to insurance companies, ensuring that all billing codes and other required

information are accurate and complete.

· Following up on denied or rejected claims, identifying and addressing errors or discrepancies, and

submitting appeals when necessary.

· Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies, procedures, and regulations related to medical

billing.

· Communicating with insurance companies, individuals in services, and providers to answer questions,

resolve issues, and provide updates on billing and reimbursement status; to ensure timely payment of

outstanding balances.

· Utilizing electronic medical records and billing software to streamline the billing process and maintain

accurate records.

· Accurate and efficient data entry. 

· Must be comfortable with the ever-changing electronic billing and medical records systems and software; willing to learn new systems while completing daily duties. 

· Coding medical procedures and diagnoses, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Comfortable working knowledge of medical coding, such as ICD, CPT, and HCPC. 

· Comfort using AI or other automation tools. 

· Participating in training and professional development activities to stay current with changes in medical billing practices and legal requirements. 

· Some travel may be required in designated service areas and may require travel to other locations in our 19 County catchment area. May travel beyond the catchment area for training.


You'll definitely need:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, plus 2 years of work experience, preferably in the field of bookkeeping and accounting functions.
  • One semester (15 semester hours) of accredited college work may be substituted for each six (6) months of experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Current Automobile Insurance

· Responsible for maintaining information security following HIPAA regulations and other accrediting agency regulations, medical practice acts, employment and safety laws, patient care laws, billing and insurance regulations or functions. 

· This position attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with HCMHDDC leave policy. · Meets productivity standards and performs duties as workload necessitates. 

· Adheres to all HCMHDDC agency policies and procedures, legal guidelines, and local, state, and federal laws, including the completion of all required training.
